Program Overview

The Criminal Justice profession is experiencing growth that will require additional well-trained employees in law enforcement and corrections. Students who complete a degree or certificate at Western Nebraska Community College will be prepared to pursue entry-level employment opportunities, or continue with their studies at a four year institution.

The Criminal Justice area, offered at the Alliance, Scottsbluff, and Sidney campuses, provides the student with a broad academic and multidisciplinary background that prepares the student for professional Criminal Justice careers in Law Enforcement, Corrections, Private Security, Court, Parole and Probation. The Criminal Justice area also provides the student with an interdisciplinary curriculum that prepares the student for advance studies. Internships with various organizations are available for advanced students in the criminal justice program.

Career Opportunities

The U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that in 2014, the median pay in the criminal justice field was $58,630 per year for police and detectives.
