Program Overview

The practical nursing program at Western Nebraska Community College is designed to prepare students to become licensed practical nurses (LPN) capable of providing nursing care under the supervision of a licensed professional. After successful completion of the program, the student is eligible to take the national licensing exam to become an LPN. Graduates will receive a diploma upon program completion.

The program is located on the Alliance, Scottsbluff and Sidney campuses. Classroom and clinical rotations are done during the school year. Clinical rotations are routinely done during the day but due to availability of clinical experiences, evenings and weekends may also need to be utilized.

Prior to enrolling in the two semesters of nursing courses, students must complete the following courses:

  • Body Structure & Function or equivalent Anatomy & Physiology course
  • English Composition
  • Psychology
  • Nutrition & Diet Therapy
  • The student must be Intermediate Algebra ready. Microbiology may be taken with the first semester of nursing courses or prior to admission to the program
