Spanish

Start Here, Get There

Program Overview

Why learn Spanish? Because there are over 438 million Spanish-speakers in the world in 22 different countries, with over 40 million of them right here in the United States. The Spanish language program at WNCC, located at the Scottsbluff Campus, is designed for both the true beginner in languages and those who already have some knowledge of the target language.

The focus is on language development, along with cultural discovery. During the first year of study students meet with their instructor daily to ensure constant practice. During the second year, students meet three times a week but are responsible for more individual work. Small class sizes provide more opportunity for conversation and individual attention. Students also attend "Live Language Lab" sessions with a Spanish-speaking peer-tutor throughout the year, presenting learners with a unique opportunity to put into practice everything they are learning in class.

Another unique opportunity presented by WNCC is the short-term study abroad program offered every two years. Students travel to a Spanishspeaking country for three weeks, where they stay with host families and study language and culture at a language school during the week and travel and explore on weekends.
