PROGRAMS
With the advent of the personal computer, computers are everywhere. Both small and large businesses rely heavily on computer hardware and software.
Students have several educational options. They can work towards a certificate, obtain a 2-year degree, or prepare to transfer to a 4-year college. Classes are designed to prepare students for industry certification.
The Information Technology program has several options. All students take a required core of basic computer classes including operating systems, internet, database, and productivity software. Each option prepares students for specific problem-solving skills.
2-year Terminal Degrees:
Application Developer. This option teaches students algorithmic and object-oriented design, programming, programming languages and operating systems. Emphasis is given to C++ and Visual Basic.NET Students learn to write and modify computer programs for customized business applications. A good math background is essential.
Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician. This option focuses on operating systems, networking, databases, hardware installation, and troubleshooting. Students are prepared for CompTIA's A+ and Network+ Certification exams.
Microsoft Certified Systems Administratrator. This option Prepares students for careers in local area network support. It aquaints students with the client server model used in networking. Students are prepared to set-up and administer a network operating system. They are also prepared to be a Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA).
Certified Cisco Network Associate. This option prepares students for careers in wide area networks, i.e., the internet. It also acquaints students with the client server model. This option concentrates on Cisco systems and prepares the student to be Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).
Web Design. This option prepares students for careers in web site developement and design. Students will learn HTML, Java Scripting, web developement software (Macromedia Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and Flash) and fundamental web design practices. Students are prepared to take Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW) exams.
Microsoft Cetified Systems Engineer.This program prepares students for business careers in computer software and hardware support and networking support equipping them for entry-level positions in the information technology feild. Upon completion of this program, students are prpeared for the CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network +, and Microsoft MCSE certifications.

Nearly 75 percent of WNCC students receive financial aid, including scholarships, loans, grants and work-study programs offered by federal, state, college and private sources.
