Be familiar with the material you are working on before using tutoring. Read all assigned material.
Come with a list of questions.
Share with your tutor any preferred way of learning that you may have.
Get to know your instructor and visit him during office hours. Your teacher is your best resource.
Recognize this is a drop-in tutoring center. Tutors may need to circulate frequently.
Ask the tutor to re-state or re-explain anything you did not understand.
Tell the tutor if he or she is moving too quickly through the material. The goal is to tutor for understanding and not simply to cover all the material.
Continue to attend all class sessions
Continue to read, attempt to complete all assignments, and write down questions you want to discuss with the tutor.
Remember – tutoring is not a substitute for class attendance and participation and failure to study on your own.
Don’t:
Don’t ask your tutor to give you all the answers or to do your homework for you. They are here to help you learn how to do the work yourself.
Don’t wait until the day before or day of a quiz to get help—a tutor may not be available.
