WNCC Tutoring Services - Tutee's Responsibilities

Do’s

  • Be familiar with the material you are working on before using tutoring. Read all assigned material.
  • Come with a list of questions.
  • Share with your tutor any preferred way of learning that you may have.
  • Get to know your instructor and visit him during office hours. Your teacher is your best resource.
  • Recognize this is a drop-in tutoring center. Tutors may need to circulate frequently.
  • Ask the tutor to re-state or re-explain anything you did not understand.
  • Tell the tutor if he or she is moving too quickly through the material. The goal is to tutor for understanding and not simply to cover all the material.
  • Continue to attend all class sessions
  • Continue to read, attempt to complete all assignments, and write down questions you want to discuss with the tutor.

Remember – tutoring is not a substitute for class attendance and participation and failure to study on your own.

Don’t:

  • Don’t ask your tutor to give you all the answers or to do your homework for you. They are here to help you learn how to do the work yourself.
  • Don’t wait until the day before or day of a quiz to get help—a tutor may not be available.
  • Don’t come unprepared.
